Watch Apple in second place in sales – El Universal

While it is true that Apple Watch placed the upper hand in the market for wearables, this situation did not help him to position itself as the biggest seller so far gadget of the year.

According to analysis firm IDC, the Cupertino company has sold 3.6 million devices in the second quarter of this year, just below Fitbit, specialized units focused on physical activity and company the sport. These results include the first three months that the Apple Watch was not sold for everybody.

The signature of San Francisco is the first study site with 4.4 million units sold, figures coincide with the launch of its first watch Fitbit Surge.

The market for wearables continues to increase, totaling 18.1 million units were sold, compared to 5.6 million for the same period. Other brands entering the top 5 are Xiaomi with 3.1 million; Garmin Samsung with 0.7 million and 0.6 million.

Despite the results, Ramon Llamas, research director at IDC, said that Apple devices continue expanding in the wearables.

“Apple will become the place to which others are measured wearables. Manufacturers will have to be updated to follow,” said Llamas.
