iOS researcher Jonathan Zdziarski has discovered that saves WhatsApp chats even after they have been removed. As reported in ‘The Verge’, which is not erased those messages creates “a treasure of information potential” for anyone who has physical access to the device. The data can also be retrieved through a system of remote backup.

Zdziarski clarifies that the application does not overwrite the deleted default messages, which remain as recoverable, according to the computer due to the use of library SQLite.

WhatsApp, as highlighted ‘The Verge’, has received numerous accolades for its default encryption end to end through Signal, but this system only protects data in transit, while the discovery of computer refers to what happens to the data once they arrive on the phone, especially if they are stored on the local disk device or remote storage iCloud, in the case of iPhones.
