The network would not proceed to a direct censorship but would you trust the software to a third party, perhaps a partner located in China.

“we decided a long time ago that we are interested in China and we dedicate space to learn and understand ever more that country”, reacted a spokesman for the american group in an e-mail message addressed to the AFP. “Anyway, we have not yet taken any decision with regard to China”, he added.

The first world-wide web was banned in 2009 in China, whose authorities keep a tight control on the Internet.

The NYT reminds that like the other groups computer american Facebook used to respect local laws and access the orders that are considered to be legitimate made by governments to block some information.

According to its latest “transparency report”, Facebook restricted the access to contents at the request of the authorities of a number of countries, such as Pakistan or Russia, in the second half of 2015.

Also blocked content in France for not respecting laws that prohibit holocaust denial and punish the advocacy of terrorism, and the access to pages containing images linked to the attacks of November 2015 in Paris for violating the national rules of protection and human dignity.
