60% of Internet consumed in Spain is pirated content – euronews

Madrid, March 10 ( EFE ) .- The 60% of consumed online in Spain pirated content was last year, when the percentage of consumers who agreed to illegal contents on the network increased from 51 to 58% compared to 2013.

This is reflected in the report of the Observatory of Piracy and Consumption Habits of Digital Content 2014, performed by the consultancy Gfk at the request of the Coalition of Creators and first collects data regarding piracy of television series and football games.

According to the report, 38% of Spaniards Pirates films; 26% series; 24% music; football 18%; 11% and 11% videogames books.

Because of piracy have not been able to create 29,360 new direct jobs, and the public purse has forgone revenues of 627.8 million of euros, says the study.

In total during 2014 was accessed illegally 4,455,000 digital content, with a market value of 23.265 million euros. The total value of lost profits from piracy both in physical format as online was 1,700 million euros, the report said.

In view of these data, the director of the Coalition of Creators, Carlota Navarrete, emphasizes “the urgent need to apply to the fullest extent the newly amended legislation.”

The inclusion of piracy of television series and broadcasts of football matches allow for a more complete and accurate picture of problem of illegal access to digital content, as those responsible for the report.
