Beijing,04/11/2016(The People Online)-took place on 22 June 2015 and lasted for two hours. A “bombshell” emitted by the Sun produced a crack in the magnetic shield of the Earth. The telescope muons in GRAPES-3, located at the Laboratory of Cosmic Rays of the TIFR (Tata Institute of Fundamental Research), Ooty (India), recorded the explosion occurred when a giant cloud of plasma ejected from the solar corona hit our planet at high speed, 2.5 million kilometres per hour, causing the compression mass of the magnetosphere, which was reduced from 11 to only 4 times the radius of the Earth, according to ABC.
The colossal burst of about 20 GeV also triggered a large geomagnetic storm which generated an aurora borealis, and blackouts of radio signal in many countries located in high latitudes, according to published researchers of GRAPES-3 in Physical Review Letters.
the magnetosphere of The Earth extends over a radius of a million kilometers, acting as a first line of defense against the continuous flow of cosmic rays and solar. In this way, it protects the life on our planet, the radiation energy of high-intensity.
The magnetic field of the Earth curved these particles around 180 degrees, from the day side to the night-side of Earth, where they were detected as an explosion by GRAPES-3 around midnight on 22 June 2015. The data were analyzed and interpreted through a simulation extended for several weeks using the computing device of 1,280 cores built in-house by the team of physicists and engineers of GRAPES-3 Laboratory of Cosmic Rays of Ooty.
