Facebook appears to be waging a war all their apps against Snapchat, and the corporal who joins their ranks from this week is WhatsApp.
The Twitter account @WABetaInfo, as well as the website FirstPost, report that the latest beta of WhatsApp for Android adds a new bar called Status, from which users can take photos and videos, add emojis , and text, and send it to users choice, who will be able to view that content for a limited time… just how it works Snapchat.
The version that seems to include this feature is the 2.16.336, beta Android. Currently WhatsApp has already closed down the program in beta for both Android and iOS, although there is the possibility to download the beta on Android and on iOS to do jailbreak.
@WABetaInfo says in the Status bar you can also forward multimedia files of conversations to others.
As always, the betas include features that WhatsApp can be testing to come soon, although there is also the possibility that the function never reaches the public version.
If this function is actually a copy of the main function in Snapchat, it will be an attempt for Facebook to copy with the functions of the queen of messaging ephemeral. Facebook has already tested with an app called Slingshot, after with Messenger Day and soon the presence of the camera function in the app-general of Facebook.
