Scientists find possible new species of octopus – El Diario de Coahuila

HONOLULU, HAWAII (AP) .- Scientists believe they have discovered what could be a new species of octopus during a reconnaissance operation in the Pacific ocean floor near Hawaii.

On 27 February, a team found a small light-colored octopus at a depth of about 4,000 meters (2.5 miles) near the island Necker, Michael said Vecchione of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The cephalopod he had no fins and all suckers were in a single row in each tentacle he said.

. The octopus “did not seem very muscular” and had little color, he added

. “This resulted in a ghostly apparition, which led to comments in social media should be called Casper, as the friendly ghost of the cartoon is almost full security an undescribed species so far, “he said in a statement published Wednesday on the Web site of NOAA (http://1.usa.gov/1oXarVu).

It is unusual to find an octopus without stabilizers so deep in the ocean, Vecchione, noting that until now had been found cephalopods of this type unless 4,000m said.

Two scientists who consulted “agreed that this is something unusual and is at a record depth,” Vecchione said, who works at the National Systematics Laboratory of NOAA.
